Tim Rowland’s Creature Features, On Tour

This post was most recently updated on March 19th, 2013

Publisher High Peaks Publishing, November 16, 2012
Category: Non-Fiction, Animals, Humor Essays
Tour Dates: February, 2013
Available in: Print and ebook, 160 pages

When Tim Rowland’s earlier book of his animal essays, All Pets are Off, was published, readers immediately clamored for more. Their preference for animal stories over the political columns Tim’s also known for is understandable: animals are way more fun to read about than politicians. Especially now.

So here’s a new volume of over 75 warm and funny essays, from the introduction to the farm of bovines Cleopatra and Heifertiti, the Belted Galloway beauties, to the further antics of Hannah the English Bulldog and Juliet the tiny Siamese, along with assorted donkeys, pigs, goats, horses, chickens, geese—and of course, more of the joyful bouvier des Flandres named Opie—that’s sure to provide loads of smiles and even outright guffaws.

Praise for All Pet’s Off and Strange and Obscure Stories of the Civil War:

Hilarious Look at Pets – I Guarantee You Will Laugh Out Loud.Tim Rowland is the columnist in our local paper and this book contains the columns he writes about his pets, including his newest dog Opie. Anyone who has had a cat, dog, alpaca, donkey, pig, horse, or who just loves animals will find this one of the funniest books written about animals. Rowland has a way of writing that hits home to any pet owner. The book is very easy to read with each “chapter” being a page or a page and a half. I took the book on a recent plane flight and I am sure the other passengers wondered what was going on as I could not help laughing out loud. I guarantee you will too!” CJS, Amazon.com Reviewer

” For some time I have been clipping columns written by Tim Rowland from the “Hagerstown Herald”, where we read them, to send to a close friend in Washington, D.C. who also likes his sense of humor and choice of rustic farmhouse topics to liven up the day’s news. This friend has been so taken with his writing that she forwards all the clippings to a relative in Texas who previously edited a small town paper and lived in a semi-rural suburban setting that sounds like Tim’s, with lots of animals around. When I tried to “edit” my choices of which columns to clip, she protested that her relatives were so fond of them, I should collect absolutely all of them. I thought she’d be pleased with Tim’s move “up” to writing a book of curious but true tales of this area in Civil War times. Since “Strange and Obscure Stories of the Civil War” probably is not on the New York Times bestseller list, I wasn’t sure I would find it on Amazon.com but it was there and made a good Christmas gift buy for this buddy. It was an easy way to move through my shopping list. Once it was in my hands, I couldn’t resist speed-reading it for myself before wrapping it up.” B. Howard, Amazon.com Reviewer

About Tim Rowland:

Tim Rowland is an award-winning columnist at Herald-Mail Media in Hagerstown, Maryland. He has written for numerous history and outdoor magazines and news syndicates nationwide.

He has also authored several books, most recently Strange and Obscure Stories of the Civil War and including All Pets are Off: A Collection of Hairy Columns, Petrified Fact: Stories of Bizarre Behavior that Really Happened, Mostly, Earth to Hagerstown, High Peaks: A History of Hiking the Adirondacks from Noah to Neoprene and Maryland’s Appalachian Highlands: Massacres, Moonshine & Mountaineering

Tim is also keeper and lackey for a wide assortment of mostly non-useful, freeloading critters, aided as always by his trusty (well, mostly trusty) companion Opie.

Glenn Snyder, Author of One Moment In Time: On Tour

Publisher: Bear Moose Press, February 23, 2012
Category: Literary Fiction, Political, Suspense/Thriller
Tour Dates: November, 2012
Available in: Print, 270 pages

On a stormy November evening, Jack Barrett had plans to treat his best friend Travis to a night of fine dining and jazz. As they neared their destination, a truck ran a red light, plowing through Jack’s car, and changing his life forever. Jack found a new outlook on life, and took on adventures that made him one of the world’s most admired people. With each step, Jack grew as a person and a leader; piecing together a family from different corners of the world, while risking himself and his family to save others. Jack’s impact on the world was like no other, but in the end, when the lights and the cameras were gone, Jack was about to die, or was he? Prepare yourself for a surprising ending that questions the very nature between life and death, reality and dream.

Praise for One Moment In Time:

“This was a fun and entertaining book to read. Snyder did a great job bringing his characters to life through a storyline that keeps you captively enthralled.  Can’t miss read. Highly recommend!”- Hornet, Amazon Reviewer

“Exciting and Imaginative, One Moment in Time is a creative view of global politics through the eyes of Jack Barrett, a character we not only like, but can relate to. Jack’s journey takes us through laughter and sadness, suspense and joy, only to be blown away by a surprise ending. A quick and fun read that everyone will enjoy.”- Moose, Amazon Reviewer

“Fun and Inspirational – Highly Recommended: One Moment in Time is a great read that is full of adventures and sub-plots that keep the story moving. It’s very inspiring and gives the reader a sense of what the world could be with leaders who are more intrested in what’s right than their own personal power. This story takes a unique approach with a shocking ending that makes it a must read.”- Antler, Barnes and Noble Reviewer

“A must read for all!  One Moment in Time is a quick and uplifting story that will make you laugh and cry. Glenn Snyder’s portrayal of how one person can impact the world provides inspiration for today’s times.”- Seymore,  Barnes and Noble Reviewer

” I laughed, I (almost) cried. Great story, even though I hated to think/find out that the one moment in time had other options besides the one I had been pulling for throughout most of the book. The truth can hurt. I loved the way that Jack was easy to pull for, easy to love. His life seemed an example of “good things happen to good people” instead of the good die young.  I enjoyed the way Snyder painted such vivid pictures of Jack’s surroundings; the storm and the accident were dramatic – almost as if in slow motion.”- Monica L. Austin, Amazon Reviewer

“If you’re looking for an easy summer read, One Moment in Time IS your book!!!  I found a bit of everything in this story – it was warm, exciting, funny, and inspirational.  Reading this book reminded me of how one person can truly make a difference – whether in another’s life or in the lives of many. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a good story that does have a shocking end.”- Theodora, Goodreads Reviewer

“I got One Moment in Time by winning a Goodreads contest. The book started quickly and hooked me right away. I won’t post a spoiler here but will say the author does a good job by the end of the book making the reader contemplate how his actions in life effect those around him. Every action you take in life has an impact on those around you. A “ripple in the water” if you will. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to others.”- Lisa Welsh, Goodreads Reviewer

” One Moment in Time takes us to interesting places with well developed characters. The description of foreign locations is authentic and we never expect the surprise ending.  It’s a fast reading book, written with great imagination.”- Ellen Ann, Smashwords Reviewer

Angela Shelton, Author of The Adventures of Tilda Pinkerton: On Tour

This post was most recently updated on December 4th, 2012

Publisher: Quiet Owl Books, July 31, 2012
Category: Children’s Literature, Fantasy
Tour Dates: November, 2012
Available in: Print, 272 pages

Somewhere out in the Sombrero Galaxy, Tilda Pinkerton–mystical maker of mysterious, magnificent, magical hats–is being hunted by the Keeper of Darkness.

Yet Tilda simply does not recall, at all, after taking a tremendous fall.

No one on Ooleeoo, where Tilda crash-landed, knows she is from another planet. Only Star Jumper Randy can tell her—but he’s light years away, frantically searching for his missing love, desperate that without her, the entire galaxy soon may be lost.

Even in the middle of cosmic danger, Tilda loves to create hats, for which she has a rare and uncanny knack. All who receive them sparkle, in fact—and spark their innermost talent. With a Tilda hat, people can suddenly do whatever they dream of, causing brilliant ideas to grow madly.

With Gladys the toad, who thinks she’s a cat, and Frank the fish, who lives in her hat, Tilda must discover who she is and what her enemy wants from her so badly.

But the Mayor of Moodle has other plans, including a ban on all wearing of hats, everywhere on Ooleeoo. His dark and forbidding actions seem to coincide with something unworldly, threatening all with a nameless dread and slowly blacking out the sky. With Ooleeoo itself turning upside down, how can anyone survive?

In this first in a series of Tilda Pinkerton adventures, Tilda must fight the battle of her life and risk all—even the galaxy and stars—by revealing her most electrifying secret.

Written for children but adults enjoy it too!

Praise for The Adventures of Tilda Pinkerton:

“The characters of this book are whimsical yet colorful. There is good versus evil mixed in with the innocence and wonder of a child and the jaded anger of misinformed adults. In the end (no spoiler alert here) the reader will be mesmerized by the larger battle of wills. Does good prevail? Only Louyne knows.  I recommend this book for all ages 8 and older. A great experience and shared reading adventure for youth and adults alike. Quick go buy it! And hold on to your hats for an adventure on Ooleeoo with Frank the Fish, Gladys the Toad, and Tilda Pinkerton – a heroine for a modern day.”- Rhonda Dean, Amazon Reviewer

“Tilda is genius!  Angela like Shakespeare used all of life to influence her art! Tilda is a teaching book about truths on many levels, stretching the imagination, showing how important it is to do what we love! It is for all ages with information about this world and others, lessons about life, universes, imagination, possibilities, parables, perception, encouragement, overcoming fear and anger, spiritual, educational and an inspiring fantasy! A lot of wallop Angela was inspired with when she wrote this book. “- JoShel Anton, Amazon Reviewer
